Write a letter to your baby to read when they’re grown

Unsere Artikel sind vorerst auf Englisch.

Die kurze Antwort

Write what this time is like: the waiting, the first days, the ordinary details that will vanish from memory. Tell them who you are right now and what you hope for them. Then choose a day years away, their first birthday, their 18th, and let the letter wait for them.

A letter written in pregnancy or the first year gets more precious every year it waits. It is also the easiest one to never finish, so write a short one now and add to it later.

What to write to your baby

  • What the waiting was like. The kicks, the names you argued about, the room you painted.
  • Their first days. Who visited, what they did that made you laugh.
  • Who you are right now. Your age, your job, your worries, your song of the year.
  • The world they were born into. Prices, news, what everyone was talking about.
  • What you hope for them.

Days worth sending it on

  • Their 18th birthday, the classic time-capsule letter.
  • Their first birthday. Guests at a first-birthday party can each write one for the 18th, too.
  • The day they become a parent.

How to make sure it reaches them on the day

  1. Write it on Carry Echo. Words are free and unlimited. A plan lets you place photos on the page and add your voice or a short video.
  2. Choose the day and the part of the day. Choose the morning of the birthday. If you don’t have their email yet, use yours or their other parent’s for now, and change it any time before it is delivered.
  3. Give more than one address. Add more than one address; over eighteen years at least one will change.

They needs no account and no app. On the day, an email arrives from your name with a link, and the letter opens on paper in the browser. Until then you can change the day, or take the letter back to your drafts.
