Write a letter to your best friend that arrives years from now

La respuesta corta

Write about how you met, the moment you knew they were your person, what you’re both worrying about right now, and a bet about where you’ll be when this arrives. Schedule it for their birthday, a year after they move, or the day you’ve promised to meet again.

A letter between friends, written now and read in five or ten years, is part time capsule and part inside joke.

What to write to your best friend

  • How you met. Get it wrong on purpose; they’ll correct you.
  • The moment you knew.
  • What you’re both worrying about right now. It will be funny later, or not, and either way worth remembering.
  • A bet about the future. Who will have moved, married, changed jobs.

Days worth sending it on

  • Their birthday, in five or ten years.
  • A year after one of you moves away.
  • The date you’ve promised to meet again.

How to make sure it reaches them on the day

  1. Write it on Carry Echo. Words are free and unlimited. A plan lets you place photos on the page and add your voice or a short video.
  2. Choose the day and the part of the day. Morning, on their clock.
  3. Give more than one address. Add a second address; friends change emails more than anyone.

They needs no account and no app. On the day, an email arrives from your name with a link, and the letter opens on paper in the browser. Until then you can change the day, or take the letter back to your drafts.
