A letter for their first week away from home

Die kurze Antwort
Don’t hand it over at drop-off. Write it the night before and schedule it for their first Monday morning, when the new place still feels strange: what you’ll miss, what you trust them with, and that home is still home.
Parents often write a letter for drop-off day. It usually gets read in the car, too soon. A few days later it lands differently.
What to write
- What you’ll miss, the small things, not the big ones.
- What you trust them with.
- Two practical things you’d otherwise nag about.
- That home is still home.
When to send it
- Their first Monday morning.
- The week before their first exams.
- Their first birthday away.
How to make sure it arrives on the day
- Write it on Carry Echo. Words are free and unlimited; a plan adds photos placed on the page, voice notes and short video.
- Choose the day and the part of the day. Choose the morning, on the time zone where they’ll be living.
- Give every address you have for them. The letter goes to each one, so it still arrives if an address has changed.
They need no account and no app. On the day, an email comes from your name with a link, and the letter opens on paper in their browser. Until then you can move the day or take the letter back to your drafts.
